I searched google for a couple days to figure out how to update a contumely fireplace environs and finally settled on painting the brass black with Rustoleum paint. I met a woman at Dwelling house Depot in the paint department that also recommended the painting selection.

We are planning to install a pellet stove insert at some signal and so in the meantime, this solved the issue of the onetime brass and chocolate-brown paint. I recollect the blackness against the fresh white paint looks beautiful and clean. A much needed improvement :).
